Western Maine Health Increases Recycling Initiatives

NORWAY , ME – Timothy A. Churchill, President and CEO of Western Maine Health announced recently that the new Pollution Prevention Plan for WMH has been approved.  The Pollution Prevention Team has put together a plan that expands on current policies for recycling and waste management; the hospital will begin recycling non-corrugated cardboard, and additional paper recycling bins have been distributed to individuals and areas throughout the hospital.

For some time the hospital has been using reusable gowns, bed pads, and laundry bags to cut down on waste disposal.  The Pollution Prevention Team is also looking at alternative ways to dispose of expired prescription medications and welcomes other ideas for waste management and recycling.  In addition to intra-system programs, the Pollution Prevention Team is collecting old cell phones and ink cartridges to recycle through a local 4-H club initiative.
