Heino Receives Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician Certification

Western Maine Health Vice President of Clinical Services, M. Patricia Cook, RN, MBA, EdD, announced recently that Stephens Memorial Hospital Central Supply employee Linda Heino had completed a class, and passed a national exam to become a Certified Sterile Processing Distribution Technician.

Heino was accredited through the Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD) which develops and administers competency based exams for sterile processing personnel who perform the cleaning, disinfecting, sterilization, and inventory practices for companies.

Acquiring this certification required a lot of commitment and dedication on the part of Heino, who was encouraged by Scott Foster, Sterile Processing Coordinator, who is also SPDT certified.  The purpose of certifying Sterile Processing Distribution Technicians is in an effort to ensure the promotion of education and continuing education around safe and effective levels or practice, to recognize the personnel who meet standards by certification and recertification, as well as

promoting accountability for sterile processing and distribution personnel in the healthcare industry.

Heino began at SMH in 1996 as a CNA on the Medical Surgical Floor.  She began working in the Central Sterile Processing Department in 2003. Heino lives in Harrison.
