Employees at Market Square Health Care participate in Skills Fair

Employees of Market Square Health Care Center recently participated in their annual mandatory skills fair.  This two day learning fair covered a variety of topics from hand washing, dining room service, and telephone etiquette to patient safety, relaxation techniques and horizontal violence.  The topics are general and apply to all employees at Market Square from RNs and CNAs to dietary and laundry workers.

The skills fair is held in various rooms on site at Market Square in an effort to help employees obtain mandatory in-services on topics such as fire extinguishers while also aiding employees in meeting the requirement for so many hours of training a year.  Employees are asked to sign in and receive the list of booths to visit.  Booths are staffed by managers, but also by front line staff who spend all year coming up with topics of importance, and a theme.

The theme this year, was FISH! with a focus on customer service and public relations.  Booths boasted educational fishy games, positive reinforcement, skits, and for a nutritional element, fish burgers were served in the staff break room.  Market Square Administrator, Philip Dubois, says that the fun, educational aspects of the fair are why staff love to attend and achieve their mandatory in-service trainings.
