Riverside Trail

In late 2006, Western Maine Health applied for and received a $160,000 grant from The New Balance Foundation to be designated towards the development of the Riverside Trail.

The Riverside Trail is a yet to be constructed piece of trail that will connect the Viking Trail at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and the trail at the Oxford Hills Middle School.  When completed the trail will be suitable for multiple outdoor activities, be wheelchair accessible and stroller friendly, and the site of ongoing physical activity programs for the entire community.

The Riverside Trail project is the result of coordinated efforts between WMH, Healthy Oxford Hills, SAD #17, including Oxford Hills Middle and High Schools, as well as the Norway and Paris recreation departments, to tackle the issue of obesity in Oxford Hills.  Programs and special events will be rolled out on the trail after it is completed.

Construction will begin on the trail in May 2007 with the help of volunteers from the Maine Conservation Corps., local contractors, and local volunteers.

In celebration of National Trails Day, Saturday, June 2nd, WMH and HOH will coordinate a volunteer trail clean up beginning at 8:30 am and ending about 11:30 am.

For information on volunteering for trail clean up please call (207) 743-5933 ext. 778.

Stay tuned for information on programs associated with the trail!
