Riverside Trail Opened!

Stephens Memorial Hospital and New Balance Employees as well as students and faculty from Oxford Hills Middle and High School, Community Leaders, Healthy Oxford Hills staff,  and Western Maine Health Board members were among those on hand for the official opening of the Riverside Trail on Wednesday May 18 at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.   Many of those present walked the trail from beginning to end to commemorate the ribbon cutting.

The Riverside Trail, which links the Viking Trail at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and the trail at the Oxford Hills Middle School, officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the trailhead by Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

The project was made possible through a grant to Stephens Memorial Hospital from the New Balance Foundation. Stephens Memorial Hospital, the New Balance Foundation and Healthy Oxford Hills have worked collaboratively over the past several years to build and improve the trails.  The completed Riverside Trail is just over one mile long.

Meghan Block from the New Balance Foundation shared how excited she was to be a part of the trail opening and thanked Stephens Memorial Hospital and others who have been involved for the last 5 years bringing the trail to fruition.  She reiterated the New Balance Foundation mission to encourage healthy lifestyles with exercise, especially for youth. The trails offers another venue for the community to walk and enjoy the outdoors.

Gene Benner, Stephens Memorial Hospital Board Chair extended congratulations on behalf of the entire Board and thanked the New Balance Foundation for their support as he handed the official shears to cut the ribbon by SAD #17 students with cheers from the crowd.
