On Saturday, November 12th Stephens Memorial Hospital will be hosting its semi-annual Birthday Celebration to honor those infants born in The Family Birthplace between April 1, 2011 through September 30, 2011. The celebration will be from 8:30am - 9:30am at the Harper Conference Center in the Ripley Medical Office Building (193 Main Street, Norway).
This is an opportunity for parents to connect or re-connect with other parents of children around the same age from the Stephens Memorial community. L & H Photography is offering a free photo and discounted picture packages to anyone attending.
Along with celebrating the birth of your child The Family Birthplace has arranged for members from FAME (Finance Authority of Maine) to be at the birthday celebration to assist parents in filling out paperwork for the $500 Harold Alfond College Challenge Grant if they haven't already done so. This grant has been available to all Maine babies born after January 1, 2009.
There are three steps necessary to receive the grant. First an inquiry card is completed prenatally. Second an enrollment kit is sent after delivery which must be completed to establish a NextGen? account. Thirdly once the account is established the money will be deposited.
There is no income limit or initial money needed to open your NextGen? account. Parents have one year to complete the application in order to receive the $500 grant.
Parents will also be able to have their child's car seat checked for safety by going to the Norway Fire Department between 10:00 am - 2:00 pm the same day. This is a quarterly event hosted by
Stephens Memorial Hospital's Family Birthplace. Anyone can stop by the Fire Department to have a child's car or booster seat checked. In Maine more than 90% of all child passenger safety seats are either incorrectly installed or improperly used.
