Protecting our Patients from the Flu

Stephens Memorial Hospital is dedicated to protecting the health and well being of the patients that we serve. Recent evidence shows that health care workers can unintentionally expose patients to seasonal influenza if they have not been vaccinated.  Stephens Memorial Hospital is taking extra precaution to protect our patients from the flu.  A new policy has gone into effect this year which encourages all hospital staff and volunteers to get vaccinated.  If an employee or volunteer does not wish to get vaccinated or if they are medically unable, they will be required to wear a mask when they have patient contact.

Our patients are coming to us to receive care and we want to take every step necessary to protect them from any unintentional exposure.  Currently we are just under 90% participation for all staff and volunteers who have been vaccinated against the flu.  This number is considerably higher than we have had in previous years.  Congratulations to our departments who have reached 100% participation which include: Administration, Quality & Safety, Human Resources, Community Relations & Development, Materials Management, Pharmacy, Patient Billing, Food Services, Oxford Hills Family Practice, Western Maine Family Practice, Western Maine Surgery and Oxford Hills Internal Medicine.
