Press Release Title

Stephens Memorial Hospital is
Putting the Patient’s Experience First

Stephens Memorial Hospital Nursing Leadership Council recently held the first annual Patient Centered Care Convention. The goal of the convention was to come together and look at the current processes in place and ensure every patient has a great experience and receives high quality care.

Staff from all departments attended the convention which began with a skit focusing on the process of our healthcare system from a patient perspective. This skit began in the doctor’s office with an ill patient brought in by his family member, and continued scene by scene following the patient through the process, including lab work, xrays, admission into the hospital, hospital experience and eventually discharged home after a three day stay.

Once the skit was complete, attendees broke up into small groups to evaluate the flow of the overall process and brainstorm a list of improvements. To conclude staff came together as a large group and created goals for the upcoming year to improve transitions of care for our patients.

Stephens Memorial Hospital is putting the patient’s experience first and committed to always improving the high quality of care that we provide.  In the future, the nursing leadership council, hopes to include real patients as we move towards patient centered care.

Stephens Memorial Hospital is a member of the MaineHealth family and a 2013 Leapfrog Top Rural Hospital.  For more information please visit our website at www.wmhcc.org or follow us on Facebook at ww.facebook.com/StephensMemorialME.
